Projects by "Business Socks"

Business Socks is the most professional of the WIT 2007 teams. Despite the team's name, only 33.333% of its members wear socks on a regular basis and another 33.333% are barefoot 84.559% of the time. The socks are a metaphor. The business is not. Business Socks represents a diversity of interests, expertise and age. The sage, elderly wisdom of Jamie is perfectly complemented by the green eagerness of Allegra and rounded out by Peter's middle-aged neurosis. Each member of the team took point on certain projects or aspects of projects, but much like only one sock is not enough, the team learned to consult each other and cooperate until they worked together like a pair of socks with a third sock that is also needed for some reason.

Colors of the Sun
Pasachoff, Jay (Astronomy) & Business Socks

Professor Jay M. Pasachoff worked with WIT to produce an educational video about the sun. The video combines impressive solar images gathered by NASA and Professor Pasachoff with original footage and narration captured on the Williams College campus. Providing a concise and informative survey of the science behind studying the sun, the video is appropriate for use in high school and college classrooms.

Renewable Energy Data Visualization
Dethier, David; Johns, Amy (CES) & Business Socks

The Renewable Energy Data Visualization” project features a pair of animations illustrating the basics behind alternative energy sources. Using Adobe Flash, Team Business Socks developed two short movies—one exploring solar electric systems, and the other solar hot water systems. These animations, with colorful images and straightforward narration, are intended to appeal to college students by offering an alternative to the dry quality of industry models.

American Studies Website
Wong, Scott; Greene, Carrie (American Studies) & Business Socks

The American Studies Program needed a website that was more modern and more professional to better reflect the program on the internet. A new site was designed from scratch and constructed using the content management system Symphony to make it easy to update and so more likely to stay in use. The new site has updatable faculty and course lists as well as information from the old site with collages of appropriate images.

Sports and Religion
Dudley, Will (Religion) & Business Socks

Three years ago, WIT interns made a digital video archive for Professor Dudley's class on the significance of sports. This project's goal was to update the appearance and content of the archive. The home page and archive were redesigned to be more visually appealing and the archive was added to and updated for when Professor Dudley teaches the class again.
